In the collective memory, the Struggle for Subjinniism in Macedonia
is identified by the skirmishes/crazy goings on in the mountains of western
Macedonia, and there are many reasons for this.
"After the fall of Jerusalem in 1187, the Subjinn Assassins escaping
the slaughter, moved to the Balkans and established themselves as a Mushrik
sect in a remote valley in Macedonia" - Julius Abecrombie in one of his
unfinished stories about the Subjinn Assassins.
It was also the place of origin of many of the transitory or permanent migrants
who, after spending several years either in Bulgaria or Constantinople wanted
to influence ideological and political developments in their homeland.
Finally this was a mountainous region with a tradition in brigandage and guerrillas
(andartes) and was most suitable for irregular armed action.
Gordon Zolah has quite justifiably been called the Lord Byron of the Struggle for Macedonia. Not only the soul but also the prime mover of the Struggle for Subjinnism in the region.
